Breath & Mantra Workshop

  • Belfast Dance Studio 109 High Street Belfast, ME USA (map)

Our breath is a potent tool that can help us shift the state of our body, mind, emotions and energy. When used consciously, the breath regulates our nervous system, centers our mind, soothes our heart, and sharpens our awareness.

In this 2-hour workshop, discover classical pranayama (breathwork) techniques to help you attune to your breath and direct it at will to bring about balance and clarity on all levels. From simple yogic breathing, to the classical practice of Nadi Shodhana, and khumbak you’ll find practices you can implement in every day life. We will “dip our toes” into with the meditative technique of Ajapa Japa, learning to integrate mantra (sound vibration) with breath awareness to help you move into more steadiness & ease.

The beauty of working with the breath is simplicity. The concept of “less is more” applies to everything we do in this workshop. None of the techniques are complex nor physically demanding.

Whether you struggle with anxiety, a busy mind, strong emotions or simply want to deepen your yogic practice, you will find something for you.

Direct your Breath. Change your Life..

WHEN
Saturday, August 09th | 9am-11am ET
Please arrive 10 min beforehand to settle in. Starting on time means we can make the most of our time together.

WHERE
Belfast Dance Studio, 109 High Street, Belfast, Maine

Note:
Please come with an empty belly or 2hrs after eating. It’s easiest to work with the breath when the belly is not full!

Who is this for?
Ideal for those with some experience in yoga, meditation, or breath awareness, and an interest in going deeper into subtle practices for self-regulation.

The “style” of Yoga in this session
The teaching in this workshop is inspired by the tradition of the Bihar School of Yoga. This is classical Indian lineage that offers an integral approach which nurtures awareness and the development of the whole person (body, mind, emotions, intuition, spirit).

This is not a sweaty, “work-out” approach. You won't need a towel (unless it's hot outside!). It is physically engaging without being demanding. All physical abilities are welcome. Few props and no perfection needed: we work with where we are and what we have.

Have questions?
If you have any concerns or questions, please write to me at info@isha-institute.com.

  • Although some previous experience in yoga or meditative techniques is helpful, it not necessary. You’ll be offered ways to adapt the practices to your ability.

  • Yes! Chairs and other props will be available to provide support. We will begin with some simple asana (physical postures) to open the body, and then spend time sitting (floor or chair) to work with the breath.

  • Mantra is sound vibration. Sound is a powerful tool to help focus the mind and move beyond its chatter. We will be using very simple mantra in this class. No previous experience with mantra is needed.

  • I’m so glad you asked! The short answer is “yes”. Please bring your inhaler if you use one, just in case.
I grew up with asthma and was also nervous about breath work when I first started. I’ve been a student of yoga for 30 years and a teacher for 20. I will do my best to guide you in a way that is safe and effective. Please write me if you have any concerns or questions. info@isha-institute.com
